ABSTRACT
From an engineering perspective, the design process proceeds in a twostep process. First, the user operational environment is mapped onto a functional environment. In this process, each operation of the operational model is mapped onto one or more of the functionalities of the functional model in the functional environment. This constitutes the high-level design process. During this phase there is a very high degree of interaction between the designers of the operational model and the designers of the functional model.
