7.a.1. Fabro, S. and Sieber, S. M., Caffeine and nicotine penetrate the preimplantation blastocyst, Nature (London), 223, 410—411, 1969. Pregnant (gestation day 6) rabbits were injected (i.v.) with 3H-nicotine (50 g/kg). Radioactivity was subsequently detected in the endometrium, uterine secretions, and in the preimplantation blastocyst. Chromatographic analysis indicated that both nicotine and its metabolites were present in the blastocyst.
