ABSTRACT

In many countries, most of the transportation infrastructurewas constructed in themiddle of the twentieth century and is approaching the end of its expected life. In addition, there were significant increases in load requirements over that period. These facts illustrate the need for fast, efficient and durable strengthening methods. A technique now gaining popularity is the bonding of carbon-fibre-reinforced polymers (CFRPs) on structural elements. CFRPs are used extensively to strengthen reinforced concrete beams and columns in existing structures.
