ABSTRACT

Ear row is one of the important features in maize. There are some differences in the number of ear rows between different varieties, and even the growth conditions can have impacts on the number of ear rows in maize. So, it is very important to count the ear rows exactly in the scientific research and practices such as breeding, cultivation and new varieties of distinctness, uniformity and stability testing in maize. The machine vision counting is a fatigue-free new method based on the computer digital image processing with high testing speed, high ability to identify, high repeatability and detection of large quantity. People used this testing method for recognition of crop seeds gained good results in corn, peanuts, rice, wheat and lentils. The traditional corn variety recognition method based on image processing is largely based on the characteristics of shape, color, and texture of the corn seed.
