ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the process of pears’ appearance appraisement by computer. The method of the adaptive threshold has a better effect when it is used in processing pears with rich spots, such as Laiyang pear, whereas its executive efficiency is slightly lower. The methods proposed to remove spots and the model constructed for grading and recognition has positive significance to grading pears with rich spots by appearance. The grading of pears is an important part of commercial processing after picking and can greatly enhance a pear’s added value. A pear’s quality of appearance is important in grading and determines the pear’s selling price to a great extent. The grading of pears based on computer vision is to use the computer’s high capability for data processing to realize rapid and automatic analysis and determine pear’s appearance quality from its shape and size, and so on. This will greatly improve the efficiency of grading.
