ABSTRACT

The Quantitative Reasoning (QR) Section is one the most time pressured parts of the University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) examination. It challenges students to solve mathematical problems by applying logic and reasoning. The Quantitative Reasoning section of the UCAT is less to do with math and more to do with logical reasoning. Students will be presented with 9 Scenarios. Each of these Scenarios contains 4 associated questions. This gives a total of 36 questions. Each question has 5 answer options. Each Scenario begins with a short passage of introductory text. This is followed by some data. The data can be presented in a number of ways, including: tables; charts/pie charts; graphs; 2- and 3-dimensional shapes; diagrams; and pure text with no pictorial representation. Students preparing for the QR section often believe they will need to use a calculator for every question.
