ABSTRACT

The purpose of Chapter 4 is to discuss the initial processes to get started in political risk management. It covers topics like preparing a Situation-Target-Proposal (STP), building a business case; identifying or producing a vision statement; identifying a portfolio of investment and projects dealing with global supply chain, describing different actions to take when implementing political risk management, and using project management to develop and deploy it. The chapter provides a basic overview of project management tools and techniques needed to develop and deploy political risk management. These project management tools and techniques include preparing time and cost estimates; developing a work breakdown structure and schedule; and defining roles and responsibilities. It also describes the project life cycle. This chapter also provides more in-depth discussion on the basics of political risk management, to include the fundamental processes of the framework: identify strategic goals and objectives; identify stakeholders; prepare the political risk management plan; identify risks; assess risks; prepare risk responses; perform risk monitoring and controlling; perform risk reporting; and maintain political risk management processes. At the end of the chapter is a list of questions to ascertain the state of political risk management in a global enterprise.
