ABSTRACT
Trials and testing of dynamic positioning systems are equally important to ensure that the functionality is maintained at its optimum level, ensuring safe operations. The two important guidelines, namely IMO MSC 645 and IMO MSC 1580 are the guiding factors for the various tests and trials a DP vessel may undertake at various times.
The references for the purpose of tests and trials are IMCA documents such as IMCA M 166, guidance on FMEA, etc. These documents have been referred to for preparing this chapter to make it easy for every reader to understand the importance of such tests like FMEA and FMECA, proving trials, annual trials, etc.
