ABSTRACT

The purpose of inspection by the architect is to identify any work or material which is not in accordance with the contract drawings and specification and to notify them to the contractor with an instruction for rectification. A clerk of works is often employed to assist the architect especially on large projects. The powers of the clerk of works are restricted to inspection and notification of any defects to the contractor. The architect’s duty is not to carry out minute inspections, but simply to inspect the Works generally with a view to finding problems with important aspects such as foundations, damp proofing and structural elements. Frequency of inspection depends upon the work being carried out.
