ABSTRACT
Breakdowns are engineering events. They are the result of physical forces at play. They are the enemy. We do everything we can to avoid failures. Some of what we do is wasted or misdirected effort.
The better we understand the enemy, the more likely we will be successful in the battle. When most people think about maintenance, they think of the repair of breakdowns. While in this book, the focus is on avoiding failures or avoiding the consequences of failures; being good at repair is essential.
