ABSTRACT

In India, other than monoculture, polyculture is also possible with milk fish. In milk fish-shrimp polyculture commercially available shrimp feeds can be used, 70% of the feeding for shrimp could be done during evening and night hours to avoid the interference of milk fish in shrimp feeding since shrimps are nocturnal in nature they will feed around actively during night hours. India has a vast potential for sea, brackish and fresh water resources which is suitable for sustainable milk fish production by adoption of scientific culture techniques for the mass production. Diversification in species for aquaculture is most essentially needed for sustainability of Indian aquaculture industry; in this regard milk fish is most suitable species for future of the aqua industry.
