ABSTRACT

The excess steam produced in the boilers during this interim period would operate the safety valves, just as described above for the reciprocating steam engine installations. The coordination of all the equipment and processes involved in producing electrical energy from fuel or water require the continuous acquisition and evaluation of data from which appropriate action by the operators may be taken to achieve a safe, efficient and reliable operation of the generating plant. All of the data from the “boiler room” and the “turbine room,” the mechanical and electrical elements of the plant, are brought from instruments and sensing devices to a central control room. In addition to the meters, there are also alarm sound and light signals to call attention to abnormal conditions, including fire alarms for several locations in the plant, in the coal pile and hoppers and fuel containers, both for oil and gas.
