ABSTRACT

In developing an energy conservation program, the energy manager or energy team should brainstorm a list of things that management, employees and on-site contractors can do to help conserve electricity. Better yet, go to the employees, provide them energy awareness training and then conduct a brainstorming session with the topic “What energy waste is occurring in our work areas now, or How can teams save energy in our work area?” Once the energy conservation program is developed, it should be communicated by placing the requirement in an organization policy or procedure, placed on key posters and made visible throughout the facility, and a PowerPoint training program developed and sent to everyone as required training. The energy manager and facilities manager should periodically walk through the facility looking for equipment that is always running and excessive electrical items used for personal reasons such as microwaves, refrigerators, stereo systems, and TVs. Invite management in the areas of walkthrough to join in inspection.
