ABSTRACT

The Indian Agricultural Research Institute examined the vulnerability of agricultural production to climate change, with the objective of determining differences in climate change impacts on agriculture by region and by crop. Agriculture and climate change are deeply intertwined. The effects of global warming on food supply are dire, whilst world population is increasing. The impact of climate change on agriculture could result in problems with food security and may threaten the livelihood activities upon which much of the population depends. Most of the time, when agriculture perpetrates its crimes, it isn’t even contributing to feeding the ever-increasing world population. The greenhouse effect, however, is a natural phenomenon that can be described as the capacity of the atmosphere of absorbing and retaining sun rays’ humidity and warmth. The rapid increase in atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide over years is linked with combustion of fossil fuels, conversion of forested land to agricultural use and changes occurring in various carbon pools and fluxes.
