ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the recent approaches to tone mapping that have been focused on providing either a general and flexible solution or reusing existing methods when reducing the dynamic range of an input High Dynamic Range (HDR) image. It also introduces methods for reducing color distortions that happen during tone mapping, and techniques used to manage colors on displays with different color gamuts and environments. The chapter shows a result of the color correction techniques compared with the traditional color correction used in the tone mapping problem. Subjective experiments showed that this color correction method matches the impression of saturation between tone mapped images and their HDR originals measurably better than other approaches. The chapter provides the MATLAB code of Pouli's color correction. The color correction techniques provide solutions to reduce the color saturation that produces a different color appearance between the original HDR image and the tone mapped image.
