ABSTRACT

Many of the softwares required for the calibration are open source, meaning that they are free. This chapter discusses different types of software, pros and cons of specific software, and a step-by-step process of the changes in the software. Marlin is a best suited software for those who want to familiarize themselves with a general software that can be applied to multiple printers. Marlin includes various features such as arc support, dynamic temperature formatting, and SD card support among other features. Printrun has several different programs, but in order to test the 3D printer, only the Pronterface program in Printrun is used. Pronterface is a graphical user interface that allows the user to jog the extruder head, heat the extruder, heat the bed, and test the motors. Machine settings are the motor steps for the extruders, the dimensions of the 3D printer, the number of extruders, and a toggle box for whether or not there is a heated bed.
