ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a detailed procedure to extend the capabilities of Aspen Plus through the user block model. It utilizes capabilities to increase the models available in Aspen Plus using MATLAB and Microsoft Excel to model a membrane unit that is used to separate an effluent coming from a reactor, mainly composed of biobutanol, ethanol, acetone, and water. Aspen Plus provides four possibilities of the user model: User, User2, User3, and Hierarchy. User helps to model any unit operation using a FORTRAN subroutine, which is the model to calculate the outlet streams produced in this model, if those outlet streams are based on model parameters and inlet streams. The user model in Aspen Plus is always used to increase the capabilities of Aspen Plus and to develop any model according to our needs. The creation of a user model in Aspen Plus has been achieved.
