ABSTRACT

Completion of a well is the most important phase of a well's life and irrespective of whether it is an offshore or onshore well, its basics remain the same. Well completion is a process of making a well ready for production. In other words, once after drilling a well a decision is taken to move ahead with developing it, the completion operation is undertaken. It incorporates the steps taken to transform a drilled well into a producing one. Well completion equipment is broadly divided under two headings: subsurface completion equipment and surface completion equipment. Perforation and gravel packing are the important operations which are carried out during completion to make the well fluid flow to the wellbore continuously without any problem. Basic decisions to be reached in designing the well completion are: the method of completion, the number of completions within the wellbore, the casing-tubing configuration, the diameter of the production conduit and the completion interval.
