ABSTRACT

Oil produced from offshore wells can be stored in the following manner: On platform storage tank, floating storage, barge storage, barge storage and tanker storage. The tanker can be used for storing liquid cargo, mainly crude oil, either by mooring to a floating buoy or anchoring conventionally in relatively sheltered waters near the shore. The design of a tanker considers the particular trade for which it is intended. Although anchored barges have been used for oil storage before, they were an operational headache due to the breaking of anchor chains during rough weather. Over and Under Water Storage Tank type of storage unit is unique in certain offshore fields and is not commonly found in every field. In an offshore field where large productions are to be handled and the existing floating storage vessels are unable to handle the complete production per day, this extraordinary special type of tank is put into operation.
