ABSTRACT
Due to their frequent portrayal in science fiction stories and other media, radioactivity and X-rays are two well-known, but sometimes confounded, examples of ionizing radiation. In general, ionizing radiation is any form of subatomic particle or electromagnetic wave that propagates with sufficient energy to ionize atoms. This radiation can be divided into two broad classes: energetic electromagnetic waves and energetic particles.
