ABSTRACT
According to the Renewable Electricity Standard included in the American Clean Energy and Security Act, 20% of all electricity production by the year 2020 must be from renewable sources such as wind, solar, and geothermal. Currently, wind accounts for 0.72%, solar/PV accounts for 0.08%, and geothermal accounts for 0.4% of all electricity produced in the United States as of the end of 2009, as shown in Figure 10.1, courtesy of the U.S. Department of Energy; Energy Information Administration/Electric Power Annual 2009.
