ABSTRACT

Surgery Report An approach to the shaft of the tibia was performed. A 2.0 mm positive-profile end-threaded pin was placed perpendicular to the proximal diaphysis 1.5 cm distal to the tibial plateau. A second 2.0 mm endthreaded pin was placed perpendicular to the distal diaphysis 1 cm proximal to the medial malleolus. At the area of greatest tibial angulation, an osteotomy was made perpendicular to the proximal diaphysis and parallel to the proximal fixator pin. The fibula was also osteotomized. A second osteotomy was performed in the distal segment close to the first and perpendicular to the distal tibia, paralleling the fixator pins. The fixator pins were positioned parallel to one another and connected to a 3.2 mm connecting rod. Reduction was visually inspected and two additional fixator pins were placed 1 cm from the osteotomy. The incision was closed routinely.
