ABSTRACT

History Adrian is a 10-year-old boy with difficult behaviour at home, who comes for a review to the community paediatric clinic. He was thought to have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), after an initial consultation in the clinic. However, information obtained from his school indicated that his teacher did not find his behaviour to be hyperactive or inattentive. His mother had mentioned that he did not seem to have any friends to play with and that this seemed to be the reason he was always causing trouble at home. It is decided that it might be helpful to observe his behaviour in school.
