ABSTRACT
The Government of Sudan has already broken commitments it made to the UN to permit human rights agents into Darfur, while such people apparently move in and around and out of Iran virtually at will. In the present situation, action against Iran is in the interests of the USA and its corporate oil and banking hunger for economic control over global oil supplies. It is important that we examine the issue of the veto, because it may well be a major factor in rendering the UN less effective as a transnational mediator. The need for transnational mediation is obvious, but – as currently structured – the UN cannot meet its obligations. However, whatever other transnational agency – let us call it the World Body (WB) to avoid the semantic difficulties of national integrity – is established would run into similar difficulties.
