ABSTRACT

Developing an effective environmental policy framework is essential in order to improve environmental quality that supports well-being and enables long-term economic development. The influence of information and communication technologies (ICT) is reflected in everyday activities and in our increasingly tech-enabled world, leaders of the private and public organizations and government officials have a more crucial influence in shaping, deploying and powering new disruptive technologies that transform life, businesses, and the global economy. ICTs are catalysts for sustainable development, as the spread of ICTs and global interconnectedness has great potential to accelerate human progress, bridge the digital divide, and develop knowledge societies. The agendas of accelerating sustainable development simply using ICTs without an appropriate strategy will prove to be unsustainable. Market mechanisms are important means for supporting sustainable development. Sustainable development mechanisms incorporate analytic considerations on climate, biodiversity preservation, and global poverty reduction, and provide critical strategies for consensus building to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
