ABSTRACT

Chapter 5, “Reliability Planning,” sets the process for developing the design for reliability plan for a product. It bases any reliability activities on an understanding the business plan along with the elements of the design and development plan for actualizing the product. This chapter reviews the inputs needed, which include elements such as functional requirements and system architecture along with detailed design documents such as the bill of materials. Elements of design for reliability include developing a theoretical model called the baseline model along with planning reliability growth activities and a final reliability model. The final reliability model may be used to monitor and trend the reliability of the product post launch. The design for reliability plan process ends with a highly accelerated stress screening as well as a list of deliverables.
