ABSTRACT

Positioning data are only one aspect of providing location-based services (LBS). A set of tools is required to automate the process of data conversion to create indoor maps from computer-aided design files that are useful for indoor LBS and navigation. Having the location coordinates obviously is essential; the location would be related to other pertinent information to understand the environment and to provide users with the location of an item or place they are interested in finding. If necessary, the position information should be transformed into a location. The normalized presentation of location information is calculated from the data delivered by the chosen scheme, such as coordinates of base stations, distance from the mobile device, location area shape, and error margins. Location can be distinguished between noncontained and contained locations. Individual locations have characteristics that are important for location awareness.
