While the foregoing discussion applied to positive displacement compressors in a more or less general way, there are certain noise source and transmission mechanisms that are essentially unique to certain types of compressor kinematics and designs. A reciprocating compressor will behave differently than, say, a rotary vane compressor, depending in part on their unique designs.
