ABSTRACT

The reason that housing shell vibrations are discussed first is that for the very large field of hermetically sealed small and mid-sized refrigerating and air conditioning compressors, housing shell vibrations are the primary noise source as far as the customer is concerned. If all the interior noise and vibration sources could be prevented from being transmitting to the housing shell and attached piping, the system would be vibration-free and quiet. See, for example, Bush et al. (1992), Conrad and Soedel (1992), Gilliam and DiFlora (1992), Kelly and Knight (1992a), Soedel (1980 a), Tavakoli and Singh (1990), and others.
