ABSTRACT

Introduction This chapter discusses the impact of mobility on business sustenance and the physical environment in which the business exists. It also discusses the responsibility of mobility toward people and society from an environmental perspective. Rising energy prices, concerns about energy security, and increasing pressure from society to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions related to fossil fuels have heightened the demand for energy efficiency and renewable energy sources. Users are increasingly concerned with the cost of energy and the energy consumption of mobile and information and communication technology (ICT) equipment. Hence, improving energy efficiency in the use of mobility by businesses can help address legitimate concerns of their users by reducing the environmental impact associated with mobile usage. Mobile business enhances its short-term and long-term competitiveness, and also demonstrates environmental leadership by improving the energy efficiency of its products, processes, and operations.
