Introduction This chapter discusses a practical case study wherein the principles and processes of mobile enterprise transitions that are discussed in the context of sustainability and the environment (in Chapter 9) are applied in practice. Thus, this chapter aims to apply the MET framework with a goal that is different from the goals of the previous two case studies, discussed in Chapters 10 and 11. The case study considered for the purpose of using the Mobile Enterprise Transition and Management (METM) framework in creating an environmentally responsible enterprise is based on a large higher-education institution (typically a university) that has global presence in the United States, Australia, India, and China. A hypothetical name for this institution is Global Polytechnic Institute (referred to as GPI throughout this case study). This chapter starts by creating an understanding of what GPI is, its brief business background, its available technical infrastructure, staff organization, and student numbers across continents. The current state of sophistication and mobile maturity of GPI is also outlined with respect to mobility. This discussion is followed by the specific challenges of sustainability and environment faced by GPI. The METM framework and the four specific dimensions within the framework (economic, technical, process, and social) are discussed from the environmental viewpoint. These factors (MET) within the four dimensions are then applied to GPI and discussed to bring about a successful application of METM in creating a sustainable and environmentally responsible educational institution.
