ABSTRACT

In most instances, except in cases where the drug can be applied directly to the affected tissues, such as a skin infection, drug therapy entails using the blood as a transport medium to deliver the drug to its site of action. Therefore, the absorption of the administered drug into the systemic blood circulation can be an important determinant of its therapeutic efcacy. It cannot be assumed that anything taken orally is well absorbed. This applies to the drugs, nutraceutical compounds or the foods we eat. Indeed, it is a case of we are what we absorb rather than what we eat.
