ABSTRACT
There are few areas of the markets that have attracted the same opprobrium as
structured finance. Commonplace, readily understood transactions – mort-
gages – caused the Crunch. The very ubiquity of the mortgage meant that it
was not a good scapegoat. Instead, some commentators turned to something
less well known and so easier to demonise: structured finance.
