ABSTRACT

Since the extent of miscellaneous (secondary) steel components throughout a project is so random there are no cut and dry rules to allocating this work, but there are some general approaches to this allocation that will be discussed in this chapter and in the chapter on miscellaneous metals. Another rule of thumb is that if the steel member in question is directly attached to the primary steel structure and the fabrication can be completed in the shop so that the member can be simply and quickly bolted and/or welded in the field, then the structural steel subcontractor should be responsible for the work. Otherwise, the work should be the responsibility of the miscellaneous metals subcontractor.
