ABSTRACT

Introduction Since the modern introduction o f chemotherapy for the treatment o f cancer in the

1940s, considerable progress has been made, affording opportunities for the clinician to cure or extend survival o f women afflicted with these diseases. However, the use o f chemotherapy for the treatment o f gynecologic malignancies requires a broad under­ standing o f the biology o f cancer, the pharmacology o f chemotherapeutic agents and management o f the complications o f therapy. This chapter will provide an overview o f cell cycle kinetics, individual drug characteristics, current drug regimens used in gynecologic malignancies, major clinical studies in gynecologic cancer chemotherapy, chemotherapy complications and anti-emetic therapy.
