ABSTRACT

Introduction A tumor marker is an entity that occurs in the body either as a direct tumor product

or as a reaction to the presence o f a tumor. Tumor markers may be detected in the blood, urine or body tissues and may be used for the following:

a. To screen a healthy or high risk population for a specific disease, b. To assist with the confirmation o f a diagnosis o f cancer, c. To assist in assessing a patient s response to treatment and d. To monitor a patient s disease course.
