ABSTRACT

On a facility-by-facility basis, in addition to annual environmental performance improvement goals, the environmental management system should require the preparation and implementation of environmental requirements documents containing at least two elements: first, the element that specifies the environmental performance levels required to be achieved and second, the element that specifies the measurements and assessments to be made by which to determine whether or not the required performance levels have been achieved. This chapter provides a discussion of the information that should be included in the environmental requirements documents. This chapter also provides a discussion of the attributes of a requirements document needed to make it a good communications medium.
