ABSTRACT
Von Euler and Gaddum described an unidenti˜ed substance extracted from horse brain and intestine. This substance, when administered to rabbits, displayed stimulant action on the jejunum and induced hypotension. This was called P substance. Substance P (SP) was isolated in pure form from bovine hypothalamus (Von Euler and Gaddum 1931).
