ABSTRACT

Overalls should not be dirty unreasonably and hair-covering cap and face mask should be worn. Breast pockets should not be used for pens, and so on as objects could fall into containers. It is necessary to clean the outside of containers and liners before attempting to take samples. When drums are sampled “on-end,” make sure that all dirt and water are removed from the recess around the closure. Spray liners with 70% alcohol. The sampler should arrange for any spillages to be cleaned up as soon as possible either by vacuum and or by hosing with water if unavoidable. To reduce the risk of contaminating samples required for microbiological analysis, they should always be taken before any others required.
