ABSTRACT

Having reviewed the fundamental neuroanatomy and neurochemistry of hand motor control in Chapter 1, we can now turn our attention to what we know about brain anatomy and chemistry for the control of handwriting. Information is available from two general sources: lesion studies of neurological patients and functional neuroimaging involving generally healthy writers. Lesion studies are typically case reports or case series of patients who experienced cerebral vascular accidents (stroke) or developed brain tumors and underwent surgical excision.
