ABSTRACT

Ocular involvement in sarcoidosis is not only common and

potentially vision-threatening but may also be the initial

presentation of sarcoidosis (Rothova et al. 1989; Matsuo et al.

2005). Intraocular inflammation of the uveal tract, or uveitis,

is the most frequent manifestation (Obenauf et al. 1978; Jabs

and Johns 1986; James 1986; Rothova et al. 1989), making

sarcoidosis the leading systemic cause of uveitis, accounting

for 37 percent of non-infectious cases in specialist clinics. (Jones 2002; James et al. 1976; Rothova et al. 1992). However,

a wide spectrum of inflammatory lesions involving the

external eye, orbit and adnexae is additionally associated

with sarcoidosis.
