ABSTRACT

Value analysis and value engineering techniques need not be relegated solely to the mature phase of the product life cycle. During the growth and maturity phases of the product, our development team can revisit the product and look at it from the point of view of reducing the cost. Based on our experience, we know that any enterprise, be it public or private, government or nongovernment, has hundreds if not thousands of opportunities for cost reduction. As we have indicated in our comments on value, our goal is primarily cost improvement. A profit improvement is usually a short-term situation, one of the most common of which being the sale of surplus equipment. The automobile manufacturing plant for Subaru in the United States is an example of how green approaches can be used to improve the environment and save money at the same time.
