The corrective action solved the problem that was costing the company millions of dollars. Often the same purchasing people have to deliver cost improvements as a part of their major performance and employee evaluation. A procurement executive pushed a change in instrumentation backlighting because it was significant cost reduction. As a cost reduction idea, it was decided to delete the bulb removal tool. Sometimes we can find some overzealous purchasing people that want to make their cost reduction quota by improving on supplier pricing. An electrical engineer noticed that an operational amplifier on a small product could be replaced at less cost than the current component. A change in the product based upon the assumption of drop-in replacement is probably going to be a poor business case. The product controls the fiber material from the source reel to the take up reel.
