ABSTRACT

Introduction New terms and concepts such as behavioral phenotypes, biotransformation, epigenetics, biological psychiatry, functional medicine, mental energy, metabolomics, nutraceuticals, nutritional neuroscience, psychobiology, PsychoNutriologic Person, transgenic, and systems biology are being coined in psychiatry, medicine, and nutrition, supplementing the older concepts of biochemical individuality and orthomolecular medicine. Perhaps as the science and methodologies of nutrition and mental health continue to evolve, a new integration will emerge, although the ethics of clinical studies makes the study of these two complex areas especially difficult.
