Many people have an aversion to anything that involves numbers. It seems that written descriptive problems are even more of a challenge. In life, many challenges start as concepts that we solve by using calculations. If you want to win when playing poker, it may help if you know the statistical probability that you have a winning hand. It is easy to know what the chances are of drawing a specific card when playing with a single deck. Mental calculation of the probability that someone else may have a better hand than your own will go a long way to ensure success in the outcome. When we work around the home, we frequently need to calculate surface area before painting or carpeting. Calculations are easy once you realize that they are based on a language that requires a good understanding of the terminology.
