ABSTRACT
A fluid is a substance that cannot maintain its own shape and has no rigidity. It will flow and alter its shape to fill the container that retains it. It differs from a solid in that it suffers deformation due to shear stress, however small the shear stress may be. The only criterion is that sufficient time should elapse for the deformation to take place. In this sense, a fluid is shapeless.
