ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we will give an overview of computer simulation methods. This must not be intended as an exhaustive course on the matter qualifying the inexperienced reader to carry out their own computer simulations, for which there are available excellent and more specialized books. The aim is rather to provide to those readers unfamiliar with the subject, and not particularly interested in it, a guide to make easier the understanding of the foundations of the most common techniques used in computer simulation of the thermodynamic and structural properties of systems, addressing the interested readers to the appropriate literature. We will restrict ourselves to the simulation of equilibrium properties, as this book is restricted to these.
