ABSTRACT

This chapter will compare and contrast the history, evolution, and current design of the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) in Boston and the Worcester water supplies. In so doing, we highlight common strategies and tools employed to meet federal drinking water regulations. We also underscore the key differences between the systems that led one system, MWRA, to pursue filtration avoidance and the other, Worcester, to install filtration to ensure high-quality drinking water.
