ABSTRACT

The tools discussed in Chapter 2 have a variety of applications in construction projects. From the perspective of managing construction projects, these tools can be grouped into the following ten areas:

1. Project development 2. Project planning 3. Project monitoring and control 4. Quality management 5. Procurement/contract management 6. Risk management 7. Safety management 8. Quality assessment/measurement 9. Training and development 10. Customer satisfaction

Project development is a process beginning with the project initiation and ending with the closeout and finalizing of project records after the construction project. The project development process is initiated in response to an identified need. It covers a range of time-framed activities extending from identification of a project need to a finished set of contract documents to the actual construction.
