ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to examine and understand the dual notions of vulnerability and resilience that exist and operate within various religious contexts. We can understand vulnerability by focusing on issues of concern, such as when people of faith experience negative repercussions during a disaster. Yet, considerable reservoirs of resilience exist within both individuals and their faith traditions. To understand better this dual reality, this chapter examines cases where religious groups have experienced differential levels of impacts from disaster events. From existing research,
